PReliminary Task
PRELIMINARY STORYBOARD
For our preliminary task we were asked to do a storyboard based on the filmmaking process and as labelled in our Do's and Don'ts page. This is a process you must do in order to get an effective film. The preliminary task allows us to put the 180 degree rule in action- the rule that governs an invisible line when recording conversation scenes.
Our storyboard explains the routing of a couple who break up but as the story enfolds, it turns out the woman is in love with another woman.

GOOD PRELIM EVALUATION
During the filming of our preliminary task we considered our options; this helped to reduce the risk of continuity errors. To do this we had discussed our plans before film to make sure everyone knew what to do.
In the first scene with the corridor walk-through, we made sure that the corridor was fully empty before filming. This made sure nobody became a continuity error. We made sure that our actor didn't look at the camera whilst proceeding down the corridor otherwise this would be breaking the fourth wall. We made sure in the subsequent scenes that all actors wore the same items of clothing.
The next scene contains our actor opening and then proceeding to close the door after he has walked through the doorway. To avoid the continuity error we made sure the door in the next scenes remained shut.
The following scenes during the conversation in where the 180 degree rule is used and therefore each shot follows the actor that is talking at that moment.

BAD PRELIM EVALUATION
In the beginning shot, we have a background character taking away the focus from the main character. As Alex comes closer to the camera, he smiles and makes eye contact. This is breaking the fourth wall.
The next continuity error is when Alex opens the door and closes it behind him, but in the following scene the door is open and he walks right in.
When Anna speaks, we cannot understand the dialogue since the sound effect distorts the voice. It sounds silly and unprofessional as if the microphone is not working properly.
There are many continuity errors in the next scene such as the breaking of the 180 degree rule. The scene shows missing props such as the table and Alex's jacket which he has removed. Anna has also removed her jacket. Later in the scene, Jenny walks into the shot unexpectedly before leaving. This is a continuity error that disrupts the flow of conversation as the audience is sidetracked. It also means Jenny's character has jumped from sitting down behind Anna to walking in behind Alex. This is proceeded by Alex looking at the camera again and inadvertently breaking the fourth wall.
In the penultimate shot the sound changes which makes it harder to understand the characters speaking. Alex is now holding a guitar while Jenny is playing on her phone and Anna is wearing a grey hoodie. The continuation of continuity errors in the closing scene depicts Anna and Jenny running down the hall holding numerous items they didn't have before and both wearing hoodies.
