180 DEGREE RULE
180 Degree Rule
So imagine a round table with two people, opposite one another, and a line goes straight through them. This is a boundary line which must not be crossed. When you record over the shoulder of a person, you must record over the shoulder of the other person but not on the same side of the line (look to the diagram). This is so when you rewatch the footage and edit it, the eyeline of the actors line up and you will not get any continuity errors.
