BBFC - WORK ON TARGET AUDIENCE
BBFC - British board of classification
The BBFC or British Board of Film Classification is a company that helps to protect children from unsuitable or harmful footage. To do this the BBFC gather people from all areas of society such as doctors, bin men, business men and women. These representatives watch a film where they decide on an appropriate age rating (certificate) for that film. The age rating can range from U to R18. The company themselves are separate from the government and therefore their decisions can be changed by the local councils. Once a film gains a certificate, it is distributed with the age rating which lets the audience know if it's suitable for them.
U- Suitable for all ages
PG- Parental guidance
12A- Cinema release suitable for 12 years and over (children younger than 12 they must be accompanied by an adult)
12- Video release suitable for 12 year olds and over
15- Suitable only for 15 years and over
18- Suitable only for adults
Our OTS will be rated 15 because typical horror movies are given this certificate. The contents is unsuitable for younger years but a 15 rating allows us to keep a wide audience range as it includes 16 and 17 year olds whereas an 18 would exclude these individuals.
